Synopsis
Leading up to the commemorative 150th Anniversary of the Meiji Restoration in 2018, the “Countown and Kick-off Event to the 150th Anniversary of the Meiji Restoration in Dolphin Port” event will be held on 31 December 2017. To further promote Kagoshima, birthplace of the many pioneers who helped lay the foundation for the Meiji Restoration, to the worldwide audience, this event will be live telecasted online. For those who tune in to our live telecast, we will be conducting a lucky draw to select lucky winners, who will walk home with attractive prizes including the Satsuma Kiriko Cut Glass, a traditional Kagoshima handicraft which was born in Satsuma (present day Kagoshima) during the Bakumatsu period (before the mid-19th century).

About the prizes
The Satsuma Kiriko, designated traditional handicraft of Kagoshima prefecture, is finely cut crystal glass developed as part of the Shuseikan project by Shimadzu Nariakira, 28th head of the Shimadzu family and 11th Lord of the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima). The Satsuma Kiriko cut glass are known for their exquisite cut patterns and beautiful colour gradation. Eco KIRI is an environmentally friendly project which breathes life into leftover Kiriko cut glass by using them to create matching lifestyle products.
